Meeting ID: 889 8675 1916
Passcode: 437494
Joining us for the hour-long conversation will be our Mayor, Marc Laredo; our Ward 1 Councilors, Alison Leary, John Oliver, and Maria Scibelli-Greenberg; and Alicia Piedalue, the School Committee Chair, and also a representative from Ward 7.
As always, we will begin the meeting with good news. And the good news is this: As of March 1, it is officially (by meteorological reckoning) Spring! For those who remain skeptical, the vernal equinox (the astronomical definition of spring) will arrive at 10:46 AM on March 20.
The topics we will be addressing at this meeting include:
1. Overnight Parking Ban — Where are we now? (Terry Sauro)
2. Snow removal issues related to Underwood School. (Mayor Laredo)
3. Underwood School and Ward School — Consolidate or Rebuild?
A. Robin will read a statement prepared by our Ward 1 School Committee Representative, Arrianna Proia, (who is not able to be with us).
B. School Committee Chair Piedalue and Mayor Laredo will discuss the process by which the decision will be made to either consolidate the two schools or rebuild them as separate entities.
Factors in this decision include:
1. Projecting enrollment over the next decade(s)
2. Selecting funding mechanisms
• Debt exclusion override. (Newton)
• Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA)
3. Site location
4. Impact on local communities
5. How Newton is preparing for the possibility of ICE (Mayor Laredo)
Despite the full agenda, we will try to keep this meeting to one hour.
Looking forward to seeing you (virtually) Thursday evening.
Warm Regards,
Robin Boger, President
Newton Corner Neighborhood Association.
