Joining us for the hour-long conversation will be our Mayor-elect, Marc Laredo, our Ward 1 Councilors Alison Leary, John Oliver, and Maria Scibelli-Greenberg; our former and future Ward 1 School Committee members, Rajeev Parlikar and Arrianna Proia, the School Committee member from Ward 7, Alicia Piedalue; and our State Representative, Amy Sangiolo.
As always, we will begin the meeting with good news.
Joan Belle Isle will talk about the history of the Cooper Center for Active Living at 345 Walnut Street and the Grand Opening at 10 AM on Friday, December 5.
Councilor Maria Scibelli Greenberg will review the successful first season at the Spears Park Community Garden.
Three important issues dominate the agenda for this meeting.
They include:
1 . The future of the Underwood School
2 . The impact of the DOT’s restructuring of the flow of rotary traffic on neighboring streets
3. What happens next re: removing the overnight parking ban

Underwood School
We are very fortunate to have with us the most qualified people in the city to answer our questions regarding the future of the Underwood School. Marc Laredo, our incoming Mayor and former Chair of the School Committee, will give us a quick summary of the recent history of school planning/funding and how we got to where we are today. The outgoing School Committee representative for Ward 1, Rajeev Parlikar, and the continuing representative from Ward 7, Alicia Piedalue, will discuss current thinking about village schools, possible school consolidation, and why the process is proceeding as it is. Our incoming School Committee representative, Arrianna Proia, will share her thinking about the process she is inheriting and her thoughts on moving it forward.
. . . . . . . . .
Traffic flow onto, around, and off the rotary
Many streets near the rotary have experienced a significant increase in traffic since the DOT changed the East Bound exit and altered other aspects of the ring road (Centre Ave.) When our State Representative, Amy Sangiolo, requested the DOT’s promised information on traffic flow before and after the structural changes were made, she was inundated with 1300 pages of detailed engineering specifications but NO information about changes in traffic flow. Amy will update us on what she is doing to get the data that had been promised and what, if anything, we can do to help the cause.
. . . . . . . . .
After the almost-repeal, what’s next regarding the overnight parking ban?
Terry Sauro has graciously offered to discuss how the “No” and the “Yes” Repeal factions are now working together to create a plan that meets the parking needs of all Newton villages.
. . . . . . . . .
If there is time, we will also hear updates on 41 Washington Street and 226 Church Street.
This is a very important meeting! Please share this invitation with anyone who cares about these issues. If they send me their email address, I can add them to our mailing list, and they will also receive a summary of the Meeting notes.
Thank you for your support of our community.
Warm regards,
Robin Boger, President
Newton Corner Neighborhood Association
